Where Did The Bitterness In Your Eyes Come From?

Weep…please weep if you must,

Cry…shed the tears,

Scream…give the world a hot gust,

Of a shriek…But don’t

Oh don’t…let creep in the bitterness.

 

Where did the bitterness in your eyes come from?

Did I put it there?

Or did someone I have never known?

Did someone bleed your heart with a sharp knife?

Or did you plunge the knife on your own?

 

Where did the bitterness in your eyes come from?

From when you as a lover scorned?

Or from when you realized fairy tales are torn?

From the first betrayal of a friend you’ve known?

Or from family whose loyalty you depended on?

 

Where did the bitterness in your eyes come from?

From when disillusionment first entered your subconscious mind?

Or from the first frustration at the fickleness of mankind?

From the repeated failure you suffered at the hands of others?

Or from the credits and praises other people don’t deserve?

 

Where did the bitterness in your eyes come from?

I could not think of a single event…

As I have taken pains to enumerate above…

That could bring about the bitterness of your rant …

Because if you believe in His mercy and His love…

A little seed of contempt could easily be shoved…

And never to grow so clear as to shade…

The happiness in your eyes that’s now turn to hate.

 

So, where did the bitterness in your eyes come from?

You have no reason, no justification…

To keep it there or to let it grow…

If you are bitter for other’s lack of action,

Take a look at your own reflection.

 

For the last time, where did the bitterness in your eyes come from?

No, this is not a poem for your consolation.

I am here only to point the direction,

Ask for God his merciful Guidance,

For the chance of happiness

and the clearance of bitterness

is now in the hands you own.

 

P/S: My first serious effort at poetry writing ever since 2006 (when I first started medical school). A bit un-polished…but it’s been a long time.Today 29/11/09 I have broken away from 4 years of writer’s block. Let’s see how long this will last.
